HERBARIA
WORKSHOP

In the Gardens of Azahara: Healing Herbs of Al Andalus

Iklīl al-jabal (إكليل الجبل - Rosemary) is warming and drying. It benefits cold disorders of the stomach and liver.
Its decoction strengthens the body and disperses cold humors.
— Ibn al-Bayṭār (13th century) - Al-Andalus.

A hands-on, sensory, and meditative herbal experience rooted in the traditional knowledge of the Alpujarra mountains of Andalusia. Participants will explore the healing plants that grow on the land of Azahara — both perennial and seasonal — and learn how to harvest, dry, and transform them into meaningful creations to take home: smudge sticks, herbal tea blends, bouquets, and a macerated oil.

Reconnect with nature through scent, touch, and tradition, understanding the link between plants, well-being, and local heritage.

Programme

At Azahara, this herbal workshop invites guests on a gentle journey through the scents, traditions, and landscapes of the Alpujarra. The experience begins with a warm welcome and an introduction to the story of Azahara, followed by a guided walk through our gardens and wild herbal pathways to discover the local plants and their traditional uses. Guests learn simple harvesting and drying techniques before creating their own herbal pieces to take home.

The workshop concludes with a calming tea moment and reflection, offering a meaningful connection to nature, heritage, and the beauty of the land.

The Herbaria Workshop at Azahara International was an intimate and memorable experience, shared as mother–daughter time. From the thoughtful one-on-one guidance of Noor to the journey itself — enriched by a fascinating conversation with our driver, Nabil, a man of many talents — every moment felt intentional. It was more than a workshop; it was a soulful experience of connection, learning, and presence.
